The following are states with highest unemployment rates as of January 2016 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
- Mississippi - 6.7%
- Alaska - 6.6%
- Washington DC - 6.5%
- New Mexico - 6.5%
- Illinois - 6.3%
- West Virginia - 6.3%
- Nevada - 6.2%
- Washington - 5.8%
- Arizona - 6.2%
- California - 5.7%
- Louisiana - 5.9%
- South Carolina - 5.5%
- North Carolina - 5.6%>
The economy has turned around from the economic collapse in 2009. A lot of those who were unemployed found new employment; unfortunately a good number had taken a significant cut in pay or part-time hours.
